clouds & love
May 14, 2010 at 4:42 PM i'm a big time fan of clouds, of sky, of weather, the colors that exist in our atmosphere. my girlfriends would make fun of me in high school for it, because right in the middle of conversation i would interrupt with a, "take a look at those clouds! it's amazing!" then i may or may not turn a shed of that sunset as they just shook their heads and laughed at me. but i can't help it, i notice our airy backdrop and i love the changes it makes by the minute, by the second.
as a child i remember watching the sun peek through a cloud-filled day, a perfect ray extending right down to the earth. i was convinced that when this happened it was God receiving those that had passed into heaven. it was so beautiful, how could it not mean that? i imagined that every day the angels arranged the heavens like canvases, painting a new landscape in the sky just for me. i've spent a good portion of my life (not just childhood) sky-gazing: stars, clouds, wind, planes, birds, the medium of the gods.
this week i've been sick: achey all over my body, tired enough to go to bed at EIGHT pm, ooky tummy, and feverish... in one word, miserable. last night as i was dragging myself from task to task to get the kids ready for bed i peered out the window and saw the most glorious sunset i've seen in weeks. the sky was lit up with pinks and blues and my heart yearned to capture them. but i was so tired. if i had just stood on my porch it would have been a portrait of power lines back lit with some puffy clouds. so my husband showed me true love and went out to capture the night for me. what he came back with made me cry, for beauty of course... and also for the small sacrifices we make in order to show love in marriage. thank you, love.

I grew up with a sky-loving dad, and he has instilled that in all of us. We love the sky. And the sunset last night was phenomenal! I was driving to Rachel's to pick up my kids, and I was in awe by the sky. And when I got there, Sarah was playing outside and she said, "Hurry Mom! You've got to see this sunset!!" I was so happy that she is already showing sky-loving tendencies. :)
