sweet sommers girls #5

::edited by JENICA::

yes, i'm still having computer issues
and yes, amy took sweet liberty to write
some of the nicest things i have ever had written about me.
and now y'all are leaving such sweet comments.
*blushing*
thank you.
connection

i'm switching the order of my giveaways
to accomodate all of this loveliness.
truthfully i had wanted to give away
some of my own prints
but i didn't quite know what to say about myself,
or how to vamp myself up,
so that you'd want something from little ole me,
without sounding all campy and self-proclaiming.
so, thank you amy, for taking the pressure off of me
and writing such seriously lovely things.

dakota girl deets

i'm adding two prints of my work to this weeks giveaway

will close on thursday, august 20th, 2009 @ 11:59 pm.
ALSO, if you want more than one chance to win,
post a link to this giveaway on your own blog
or facebook page and link it here.
just upping the ante. ;-D

thank you again.
i love this space
and all the goodness
that has been cultivated since it's infancy.
thank you all for supporting me.

here is amy's original posting:

Jenica left herself signed in on my computer-- So, I am taking the opportunity to hijack her blog and throw a little love her way. Oh, and i'm also hosting my own giveaway on this post. This will teach her not to sign out of blogger. :)

I'm Amy.

I met Jenica at Squam last year. Although we live about six miles apart, we would never have met if left to our own devices. We just didn't move in the same circles. We have different friends and different goals and different views on life, but meeting in New Hampshire planted the seeds of a friendship that grew steady and strong back in Utah.

Simply put, Jenica is one of the most talented individuals I have ever met. Beyond being an incredible artist, a gifted writer, and a fantastic photographer, she is an amazing mother and friend. She's kind, caring and compassionate, but never a doormat. She makes herself heard, she makes herself seen, and those of us lucky enough to see and hear her, know that when she speaks...you should LISTEN. She's the giver of good advice, the one who sees things clearly and intuitively, and your biggest cheerleader when you are pushing through in pursuit of a big goal. She truly has one of the most beautiful souls I have ever known.

I'm a big believer in counting blessings, in expressing gratitude for the good things in my life. I believe that by doing so, you invite more good things in. Jenica (and her sweet family) are always on my short list. I'm lucky enough to be able to see her a lot, to spend time with her and her family and soak in her creative, loving, funny, truthful goodness.

So, for those of you who don't get to play with Jenica a lot, how about you tell me how you would spend an afternoon with our favorite blogger/artist/writer/mama, if you had the opportunity. I'll randomly select a comment and send you a package with Jenica's favorite treats in it and something else I'll dream up to remind us all of Jenica. It'll be fun! Plus, I want to be in on the pre-squam giveaway action and i'm not afraid to use someone else's blog to do it!

Jenica- please don't kill me when you find this out. All this giveaway goodness is fun, plus I love you, and so many other people do too. Today we are celebrating the awesomeness that is JENICA!

I don't get to spend nearly enough time with Jenica either, so I'd probably want to spend a good couple of hours with her just catching up and learning about each other again.

The more I know her the more I love her. Isn't that the way it is with truly good people?

Ha! I love this!!!

Jenica is one of my favorite people. I am so happy she and I got in touch again after High School.

If i could spend an afternoon with Jenica, I think we would grab our camera's and go on a photo date. Then we would get ice-cream or some other kind of fantastic dessert... and then we would go back to one of our homes... or somewhere, and have a sleepover. Because you are never too old for sleepovers. And we would stay up till the wee hours of morning talking and laughing.

:)

I adore Jenica- and really anyone who is around her for more than a few minutes does. By only being her, she has made me realize I deserve good people.

Only an afternoon...not long enough! But I would bring tasty things to eat and we would create and talk and laugh, kid free. She would teach me something, I would teach her binding and we would hope for time to slow.

oh yay! what a dream of mine...an afternoon with the goodness that is jenica.

i think we would simply "be" together. our kids would be running around like wild things, half-clothed, perhaps playing in the mud outside. there would be real life messiness happening...hurt feelings amongst the littles perhaps? poopie diapers to change. but in the middle of the chaos we would create calm...and we would settle into a joyous creative pulse. making things from paper and glue and paint and scraps.
we would find wisdom in our conversation and we would most certainly be delighting in some type of delicious snack. good music on...children's laughter...mess and beauty.

sigh.
what time should i come over? ;)

This is great!

I don't really know Jenica very well, so I suppose we would go to a park or something and talk home school while we let the kids play together.

I just discovered you blog through a comment you left at The Whole Self. Since I only have time to read a few quick snippets, I must say, I look forward to taking some time and getting to know you.

Cheers,
Melissa

Wait- I was excited to send some stuff out too! Can i send some stuff to the winner of this giveaway, too?

I am sorry to screw up the order of your giveaways, but I just HAD to take over your blog when i had the opportunity. It was way too good to pass on.

ok...i LOVE that picture of you and your little girl of gorgeousness.

W.O.W!

who took that?

If I had an afternoon with Nen, we would take a step back in time. We drive the streets of Orem, Zuka Juices in hand, singing in retainer talk to UB40, (or was that IB17?). We'd take random pictures of us and make a book to send to our missionary friends while gorgeing ourselves on Mrs. C's chocolates.

To have those afternoon's back! Love you girl.

a whole afternoon, i wouldn't even want to plan anything beyond spending time just talking and laughing and playing with the kids, yeah, that would be pure bliss i think ;-) xo

I think if we were to spend the afternoon with each other, we'd talk about babies/kids and maybe I'd get to do some art again (after waaaaaaaaaaaay tooooooooo long...)! Jenica, you are a super woman and I am so glad my sister met you-mostly for her AND a little bit for me, too! :)

Dance, we would dance. Wildly and with total abandon. And sing loudly even if we didn't know the right words. And then we'd fall into a heap and laugh really hard. And talk. And eat chocolate. And talk. And laugh some more.

Oh, now I'm wishing I lived down the block . . .

Hmmm...if we were to spend an afternoon together, we would go get some yummy organic goodness, and then go on a photo hunt!

I'm happy and grateful to be able to spend afternoons with Jenica! It is refreshing and recharging!
Thanks Jenica!

I wanted to wait to post a comment, since I already have two of your beautiful prints. But, I've been mulling this over in my mind for the last few days. My conundrum is that you're so incredibly talented, and I suck at all the things you're good at. However, I do love to watch people do what they love, so...here's what I've come up with:
I'd like to play with your kids for a little while and then go to lunch somewhere with a group of people, maybe hit a matinee or something and grab slurpees on the way home, and then sit outside and watch you work on your art with some of your more...artistically minded friends. oh and you'd have to take pictures the entire time so that I could see them at the end.
It's a very selfish vision, but I'm utterly unrepentant.
