purging

we've spent the weekend sorting, deciding, and purging all the STUFF we've been collecting through the years. i've always been one to keep all of my kids clothes, knowing that i'll be having more children some day. the problem with this process is that kids grow.
quickly.
so when all is said and done we've got:
shoes for summer
shoes for winter
shoes for rain
shoes for the beach
shoes for play
shoes for church
shoes for sizes 0-12
shoes for boys
shoes for girls
shoes for both
it's no exaggeration to say
that we've got hundreds of shoes
tormenting me.
we can never seem to find more than one of each
at any given time
for the right size of foot
or the right season.

i'm just grateful to have a local charity that will take all of these little beaut's to kids all over the world. it's somewhat embarrassing to see all of this stuff being taken out of our little house. i just can't believe how much we have to give away.

we also gave them our couches.
before buying new ones.
so don't expect a seat if you come to play. ;-D

Oh wow, those are just too cute! I love the tiny little chunky striped sandals! It must be bittersweet to give that many to charity. Too bad I can't talk you into saving them for me. :)

Oh oh! I see a match, I see a match!

I just recently did this and have been purging this year like crazy and it feels so right. I hold onto stuff way more than I should. It isn't sentimentality, more practicality on my part. But how practical was it to have things that no longer, nor ever would work for us again? Keep on Jenica!

Ha, yes, that's what my daughter's shoe collection looked like. Now we regularly get rid of stuff like that. (By 'get rid of' I mean 'pile in a corner in our bedroom until we're tripping over it and then give it to Goodwill'.)

Hmm...I don't suppose you have boy's shoes in sizes 8 and 11 or 11 and a half? Sneakers? ...if you do, I'd consider buying them from you and paying for shipping...

You got rid of your couches? Wow! I can't imagine your house without them!!

Oh, my goodness. I have been thinking of undertaking the exact same process. And I only have ONE child to deal with!

It's a good feeling, though, to let go. I'm excited to find some time to do it.

As always, you are my mommy-mentor.

I'm going through the same thing!! The girls shoe cubby has turned into cubbies (4 to be exact). There are cowboy boots and flip flops and glittery mary janes and sneakers that were never worn and some that are so gross and worn out they should be put out of their misery. And of course, I can never find 2 that are the same or the right size...and yet I can't bring myself to get rid of them. I feel your pain sister! ;)

i'm not doing shoes, but look forward to purging my wardrobe after the next babe comes. Yippee! I hope to eventually get down to one wardrobe. Not 5 sets.

I hope you didn't give away the ones E wrote her name on in permanent marker. Those were so sweet.

And John was okay parting with all of those shoes?

You do know that you'll now be pregnant in no time, in need of shoes for the newborn?

Which shoe was in the hole in the wall?
