exhibition one
September 22, 2008 at 10:39 AM i'm still a mixture of thrilled and mortified by the exhibition. i'm over the moon that on my first competition i was picked to be part of a state-wide touring exhibition! i'll let you know more details as i get them, but it should be touring for the next 4-6 weeks.
of course as i look more intently at it, i see all the imperfections jumping out at me, screaming to be fixed. that's what 5 hours in a cemetery, working with limited supplies and time, will do to you.
this first one ("hansen memorial") is a mixed media piece using a spring city census from 1850, along with some textured paper collaged in on the memorial itself.
i'm glad to have this one back ("golden") because i already know what i need to do to fix it! both pieces were under painted (thanks susan!) causing richer colors on top.
all in all it was a great experience. i was able to talk to a few of the exhibition directors, one that mentioned that some sophisticate buyers had looked at my piece, not sure how i feel about that.as we went to leave my E said to me, "i know that it looks like these other painters are better than you, but i know they're not! you're the best painter in the world, mama."
