spc skill #3

as with all skills, i'm not good at this one all of the time. but for the most part, i have a gift in being able to just let go and play.

today the sky broke and the rains poured down. this is my most forgotten favorite of the year. to me it rivals even thanksgiving. and yet i somehow always forget how much i love it and how much i NEED it living in this high, dry desert.

monsoon season
as soon as i heard the first clap of thunder i ran and gathered all the kids. i even went as far as to yell, "it's an emergency! everyone outside right now!!!" we ran to the back porch and threw open the door. the smell of rain and the shock of actual humidity hit us right in the face. my kids were tentative at first, but were soon happy to throw their faces back and taste the sweet, heavy droplets.

we were all glad that F had chosen to wear snow pants in the heat of the day. they actually came in handy.

in the long run, it doesn't matter if your clothes get wet, if the dishes get done, or if social etiquette is followed. sometimes you've got to just run out in the rain and let go of everything else.

This turned out beautifully! Love the high spots of color compared to the grayness of the rest and I love how joyful you look!

PS...Even not living in a high desert area, I'm a bit that way about summer storms. I dislike rain in general, but love certain types of storms. Weird, but true. :-)

Amen to all of this, especially, "Sometims you've got to just run out in the rain and let go of everything else."

I can seriously learn from you. :) I need to learn how to chill sometimes- I get way too high strung! And the things that really matter- you're totallly right, are your kids going to remember that you did the dishes all the time or that you played with them?
