a real man wears...

his baby.

the hubs and harmony have a standing date. every night when the hubs gets home from work, he straps her on and takes her everywhere he goes. she LOVES it, kicking and giggling all over the place. and i think he's all the hawter for doing it. ;-D

the hubs and i were discussing the other night how every male in his family is essentially the same person, in a separate body. they are all hard workers (some might call them workaholics). most of them are set in realistic, rational world views (some may call this pessimism). they have all married loud and forthright women (some may call us obnoxious). after a large meal they all lean back in their seats and interlock their hands behind their heads in the EXACT.SAME.WAY (i call this adorable). they also all have very dry personalities (some may call them *stuffed shirts,* i however *get* their humor and love it). oh, and sometimes their dry personalities and rational views lead them to come across as slightly curt and maybe a little non-emotional?... people skills are not typically their forte.

a situation from the other day illustrates how this plays out in our own family. a friend of mine came over and as she approached the house she saw F playing outside. she called to him to tell him hello. he simply raised his hand to her and said, "DON'T TALK TO ME! just go inside. don't talk to me!!!" i know his little heart, and what he meant to say was, "hey there friend, my mom is inside, go ahead and go in."

the same scenario repeated itself when the same friend came over last night. i was with the kids downstairs and the hubs was napping in the living room. her knock on the door woke him, so in his defense he may have been a little disoriented. when he opened the door to see her there, he simply began looking for me, saying NOTHING to her. rather than just saying, "why hello kathryn, it's nice to see you. come in and i'll find jenica!" silly rabbit.

i was joking with the hubs about how he handles emotions. when we first got married people would try to patronize him by saying, "don't you just LOVE to be married?" he would jokingly reply, "well, we're still together." they would chuckle uncomfortably as their eyes shifted over to me to see if i was laughing. yes, most people just don't get his personality ;-D

when we found out we were pregnant with e, friends and family would again try to evoke emotion out of my stoic hubs. "aren't you just so excited to have a baby!?!?!" his reply? "i guess" even though HE had been the one dancing a jig when a positive test revealed itself on the bathroom countertop.

so it really should be no surprise to me that he would say this the other night:

"I have a different way of showing my excitement... it's through a series of diagrams and charts."

i think he's so funny.

You absolutely must scan and post those diagrams and charts! (Kidding. I get it.)

seriously, are we married to the same man? doesn't an emotionally sometimes incombatible man force you to practice your explanation skills!
