the boy reads

when E wanted to learn to read it was a daily process involving plenty o' time, plenty o' stickers, and plenty o' praise.

but the boy, he's just different. maybe a little more private. he apparently taught himself to read with no fanfare. he waited until he was reading full sentences and comfortable with his skills and then he came and showed us how smart he was, one month past his fifth birthday.

part of me is, of course, a little saddened that i wasn't involved in the process. the rest of me is ecstatic that he is so excited to learn new things that he doesn't wait for anyone to tell him to go, he just does it. credit goes to starfall and playhouse disney for getting him so excited.

to top that off, i think we may have an engineer on our hands. he made this homemade catapult using a measuring spoon, a plastic web, and a toy ladder.

i love this boy and his mysterious thoughts.

Oh, wow, that is so cool that he did it on his own. But I understand the bittersweetness of it. My daughter was similarily inclined to do it all by herself.

Wow, WTG to your little man! My used-to-be-middle child is going to be the same way...incredibly intelligent, very private.

And also- you are SO PRETTY. How do you look so well rested with this many children? I look like a zombie!
