i've been caused recently to scrutinize the meaning, the sacrifice, and the joys of motherhood. i'm not sure exactly what i've come up with, other than just the personal feelings behind why i do what i do. i'll share just a few.
for one i never thought i would be one of *those* types of mothers. one of those mothers plugging quarters into a bouncing elmo car just to avoid yet another tantrum as we leave w@lmart. and yet... 50 cents is a total bargain in comparison to the $30 vibrating elmo chair that G had been sitting on in the cart through the entire shopping experience.
as i've mentioned before, i never knew just how much poop was involved in raising children. in the first 10 minutes of being awake yesterday we had FOUR accidents among three children. and it didn't end there. i may as well have turned them outside nekked and allowed them to roam. i find cleaning up that much poop quite demeaning really. it's hard to have a perky attitude while cleaning up the excrement of those that know better and even those that don't.

my oldest, having a very indian moment
and yet there are blissful, wonderful moments that make my days light and make the trials worth every second. things of joy that happened yesterday:
.: watching signing time with my kids, and seeing ALL of them respond so well to it, even G picked up every sign we watched and she's been using them today! we spent 30 minutes signing and playing and giggling together. .: F is apparently a mindful christian. yesterday after FINALLY using the toilet he said to me, "Jesus pooped in a toiwet?" floored me, how do you even respond to that: "yes, if it helps you want to go." or, "well, i don't know if Jesus really had a toilet per se, but i'm sure that he took care of his own poop." ;-D
.: all three kids NAPPED, at the same time!!!
.: G sneezing so hard it actually knocked her straight onto her keister.
.: not cooking dinner, because i just wanted a burger, fries, and a salad.
.: the hubs coming home early and doing EVERYTHING for me. he wrangled the kids the whole evening, did all the grocery shopping, and even put the kids to bed. all while i laid on the couch practicing breathing exercises as the contractions surged for an hour. i luff him.
.: G smoothering me with hugs and kisses every chance she gets
.: E actually telling me that she loves me! and knows i do a lot for her! and THANK YOU? it was amazing!
.: having ripened bananas hanging in my kitchen. which means that tonight we get to make banana bread together and teach the kids about fractions and numbers.
i can't do justice to how motherhood changes a person. i can't sum up the rollercoast that it is. i can't put into words just how your heart breaks and soars within the same moment. life is grand, they are grand, and i'm priviledged to be a part of it.
go ahead and just TRY to tell me that she's not the cutest kid you've ever seen.
